Neuromuscular physiotherapy for chronic, recurrent, and episodic pain and movement disorders using an integrated, personalized, and science-based approach

I am a professional rehabilitation consultant (aka, rehabilitationist) in private practice, with an extensive work history as a client-centered therapist, counselor, advocate, educator, and bodyworker spanning over four decades. Since the mid-1980s, my professional focus has been on the development and delivery of a contextually integrated (i.e., mind-brain-body-environment) dynamic systems approach to pain-related disability treatment and prevention. My clientele primarily includes individuals whose lives have been affected by temporary or chronic pain due to illness or injury, have experienced losses in their functional abilities and capacities, and may be living with or at risk for long-term disability. My major goals include: each client achieving significant reductions in pain, discomfort, and stress; restoration and optimization of biomechanical and physiological functioning; increased activity and productivity; and optimal independence. My professional commitment as a rehabilitationist is to treat, guide, educate, and otherwise help return each client to the fullest physical, psychological, social, educational, vocational, and economic capacities possible.
Because my practice is unique, people who are new to my work often assume that I am a physician, chiropractor, physical therapist, massage therapist, or a practitioner of the "alternative" health care community; but my education, training, and professional orientation are qualitatively different. Rehabilitation, as a profession, is not as well-known; and stands apart for its comprehensive scope, rigorous education and training, and full commitment toward contextual client outcomes. We are also the least utilized profession in the public and private health care domains. Reading on should clear up any confusions.
Please look through the rest of my website to determine how I may be of assistance to you or someone you know. The website's additional pages contain different perspectives related to my practice. The next page, "Problems with Pain", includes a detailed overview of conventional and non-conventional approaches to pain and disability . "How I Can Help" offers my response to the epidemic of chronic pain and pain-related disability, and contrasts and distinguishes my approach to comprehensive case management and treatment in light of state-of-the-art research and clinical applications; and clarifies what the field of rehabilitation is, in contrast to its common uses and connotations. "Client Files" provides information covering various health conditions and individual needs relevant to my practice. "Client Feedback" includes submissions by some of my clients about their experiences, and how my approach made a difference in their lives. Finally, "About David" provides an overview of my professional and academic background.
My practice is by appointment only. My normal business hours are Monday - Friday (9 AM - 8 PM), and Saturday (9 AM - 4 PM). If your work schedule or other commitments present obstacles to these hours, call me to work out a time that is convenient for both of us.
Initial telephone and e-mail inquiries are welcome at no charge and with no obligations. I am happy to talk with you about your specific needs and concerns, and to help you decide whether or not my services fit your needs. I can be reached at (413) 527-0558 (voice only, please). If you prefer, you can e-mail me at dmsills@verizon.net.
Costs: My standard hourly rate is $60/hr. Extended treatment sessions (beyond the first-hour) are charged at $60/hr according to additional treatment time. I offer discounted and capped rates and time allowances based on need (i.e., limited income or assets). Please feel free to mention any economic constraints you may be experiencing.
I maintain a conveniently located 1st-floor handicapped-accessible office at 'The Leeds Gravity Center' building, 38 Mulberry Street, Suite #102, in Leeds (Northampton), MA with free and ample off-street parking. There is also a quiet shared waiting room adjacent to my office. The office is 0.8 miles from Rte. 9, just beyond Look Park and the V.A.
[Please note that there is no USPS mail delivery at the office location. I will provide my home office mailing address upon request]
